The International Holocaust Day ( 27 January) is an annual international day of remembrance of the Holocaust , created by UN Security Council Resolution 60/7 of 11 November 2005. The day is marked on 27 January to commemorate the same date in 1945, when the forces of the Red Army of the Soviet Union liberated the approximately 7,000 returnees and surviving prisoners at Auschwitz in German-occupied Poland.
