God's guidance through the Urim and Thummim!
What is the Urim and Thummim? We read in the Old Testament so flush high priest go with a breastplate which was square and embroidered with gold threads. On it were twelve different precious stones, in a frame of gold, with the names of the twelve tribes engraved. Here God revealed his will by and through this breastplate. This tells us of God's presence, but we have it in the same way in the NT. But when by God's inherent spirit who reveals God's will for the individual believer.
Picture of the High Priest with the clothes he wore. Symbolizing aspects of Christ and our walk with Him.
By this breastplate were the Urim and Thummim
Breast tablecloth should folded. Why? Because something was hidden in it, it is called the Urim and Thummim. Most likely this was precious stones, and words mean light and perfection.
When someone had to make an important decision, but did not know exactly what God wanted them to do, they went to the high priest. He was able to tell them what God was using urine and Thummim. By them God gave his answer, and the inquirer got perfect light on what he should do.
Maybe someone thinks that: 'I wish we had a high priest who always could show us the way!' Well, that is precisely what we have, but fortunately not on earth where we may need to have traveled far to get help! Our High Priest in heaven, and in prayer we have direct connection with him.
We can approach our high priest with all our problems. He is there for us. He lives for his people. He did not leave us in doubt. We can tell him everything, and then we quietly wait for his answer. In his time he will make it clear to us which way we should go.
Here we read about this in the OT:
5 Exodus 33. 8 About Levi he said:
Your Thummim and Urim
shall be with your faithful husband,
whom you put to the test by Massa
and fought against by the waters of Meribah.
2 Genesis 28. 30 In breastplate shalt put the Urim and Thummim. They shall be upon Aaron's heart when he comes forth to the Lord. Aaron must always wear the ruling of the sons of Israel by their heart before the Lord.
Today Urim and Thummim is what the apostle Paul speaks of:
Rom. 9. What I say is true; I do not lie! For I speak in Christ and my own conscience confirms it in the Holy Spirit.
Our consciences by the Spirit of God and God's word, it seems that the Urim and Thummim in GT.
This could we have spoken much about. But here is an article I wrote about God's guidance I take. This I wrote a few years ago.
How to be led by the Holy Spirit!
Rooms 8 14 All who are led by the Spirit of God, they are God's children.
Efes. 2. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared in advance ordained that we should go into them.
1.) Not being led by God
It is a struggle to be led by God. There being misled is important to take with them. It is possible to be misled too. Will a not let themselves be led, so it becomes a nor not.
Psalm 32. 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I let my eye rest on you and give you advice. 9 Do not be like the horse and mule which have no understanding. Their savagery must be reined with bit and bridle, or else they will not you.
We are encouraged to not be like the horse and mule which have forced. But let the Lord give up our advice with only eye if so, to intimate communion may be.
2.) Always in accordance with God's word.
Allah does not outside word but in accordance with the word. We can always be assured that the Lord leads not without passing the word, but in accordance with the word. Psalm 119. 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light unto my path. We must always check and be adjusted by the word of God. I believe that the Lord directs but sometimes there is something of ourselves, it must and will word-adjusted and correcting us!
3.) Know your limit, starting in the small.
We read about many great God men and women both in the Bible and in literature. They experienced many of them God in a wonderful way, but all the way to start believing God in the small. We must never believe that God always do great things before he can do so little. We must learn to appreciate the little before we can experience the great. Grateful people and grateful Christians are the strongest and happiest people. Luke 16. 10 He that is faithful in the least is faithful also in much, and whoever is dishonest in the least is also dishonest in much. We must be faithful in the small before we can get more and experience even greater things. Are we fraudulent in that little so we will in all probability not experience large. And if we get to experience the great without being faithful in the little, then there is no way God does it usually and it will always then have a form of bitterness in him.
4.) Conscience is God's instrument.
From my background in free friends \ Pentecostal movement so it is an area that has been and is incredibly little understanding of, the importance of conscience and how it leads us. When we accept Jesus, we get a cleansed conscience and it behaves differently than before. It applies only to never go against their conscience in some areas of life, it is a God instrument and through the God speaks. Paul laid careful to never hurt his conscience. Take time in silence and listen for your conscience, it will lead you and warn you against what not to do and lead you to what you should do.
5.) Do what you know as rich and you fancy.
God is all Joy God. He leads you and me through joy. Do you fancy a service as it is a gift God has given you. We're not talking about carnal desire, but clean and wholesome joy. God gives us delight in the things we do and reluctance that we should not do when we have a good and pure conscience. One opens up the others, this applies both positively and negatively. Do you have a bad conscience is your spiritual life in the dark and you can not expect to be led by God in a right way. I'm not talking about salvation here, you can be gloriously saved yet without past God with your life. But the best thing is to be delightful deliver, and lovely loose and set free.
1. Joh. b. 3. 19 is how we know that we are of the truth, and we shall assure our hearts at rest in His presence. 20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our hearts and knows everything. 21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us, we have confidence toward God. 22 And whatever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep His commandments and do what is for his good pleasure.
6.) Use what you have and have not.
It is important and necessary to not be completely overwrought and dreamy when God shall lead thee. Tell me what you have in the house, asked the Prophet? It was the widow would use, not more or less. Use you also what you have and have not. Do not live in a castle in the air but try to find the way of God for your life in a concrete, simple and straightforward manner. That is what will work best and for the Lord. But God sends more staff to you, so do you also use them, the vast majority have a family and others have also friends, do you use them and play on the same team with them. God leads you into the conditions you are in and have, not what you dreams and desires. Dreams and desire are important, they may seem stimulating and be as a goal. But use the talents and gifts God has given you.
Rom. 12. 3 In the grace I have received, I say to each of you: Do not be larger tanks than you should, but use your sense and be sober! Each one should adhere to the measure of faith that God has given him.
7.) The circumstances will speak for or against you.
God is not like that everything should constantly be against us, but rather for us. It may well be that the Lord will blast gates, mountains and much more for us. And satiate us in the wilderness, but it is important to wait until this happens and not run ahead of God. Circumstance will and must go with us, or so we springer front God. And we do not need to fuss neither God nor others, but only to make our needs known, the rest will do the Lord and work forward.
8.) You will thrive in God.
There are those who believe that everything God does will be difficult and one should not lust after. God will lead you to a spouse so one should feel uncomfortable with them. Such is not God! God allows us to thrive and gain a passion to do his will. God is good and makes goods psalmist says. Do you want it, you say saying. This can of course be misused, but God wants us to thrive to go with him. Although it can sometimes be quite so should match the keynote being that this is good and this will not of reluctance but of joy.
Psalm 73 28 But for me it is good to be near God. I take my refuge in the Lord. I will testify about all your deeds.
9.) The Holy Spirit will testify.
Rom. 8. 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.
This Spirit testifies that is of course very important. We have God's own Spirit inside and he witnesses. You want to know palpitations, you get hot and clammy or anything else. It is God who works in you, then it will be marked on one or more ways. I know it very often with palpitations and heart beats a phase faster. This is individual, but one learns it as one gets used to and going out on a familiar in its interior.
God leads us through an inner light that I choose to call intuition. By this so we know one notice at what is right, what will happen etc. And when we do not do and be with. This notice is also an inner voice, therefore one needs to be taught to listen and be was the voice.
11.) The Spirit of God speaks directly.
This is very rare, but it is a possibility, God speaks directly by the Spirit. We must be open to that God leads many and various ways.
Acts 10. 19 Peter pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him: "Here are three men asking for you. 20 Hurry and go down; and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them. "21 Peter went down to the men and said:" It's me you are asking for. Why have you come here? "
12.) Supernatural manifestations.
Dreams, visions, engleåpenbarelse, rapture and much else. All this we must expect that God will guide us. The evangelist Philip got to experience something great when God led him, he was caught away. God is the same and do the same today too, only we believe and are open to him.
Acts 8. 39 When they came up out of the water, pulled the Spirit Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more. He continued his journey happily. 40 But Philip was seen again in Ashdod, and he preached the gospel in all the towns he traveled through, until Caesarea.
Why be led by the Holy Spirit?
1.) Through it being led by God, we learn primarily to know God. And also ourselves and other people. There are many times through a no from the Lord and a yes from the Lord that we understand how he is and what he believes. We believe that God does not answer, but he always answers. If he does not then there is something he will have taught us through it too.
2.) It seems to the edification of us.
We need to be headed for our own sake or as we go wrong and being misled on the road. God wants to take every one of us by the hand and leading and directing us in ready-made works. We need first to be blessed even before we could be doing other there.
3.) When we refreshes others we get even slaked.
There is a greater blessing to help others and to be of help to them than we realize. God has created us to communion and that God leads us, as he directs us very often so we bless others and is of help to them! People will see our good works and be saved!
All this will lead God by his Spirit lead. That people get to meet God through our lives and we even get to experience him, underbart, large and it is a reality for all of us in Christ Jesus!
In GT were Israelites led by God through revelation. So also in the NT. But NT and the new covenant we do not need a High Priest, as our High Priest live by faith in our hearts. Based on there, so head, God!
God's guidance, what is it? It is to follow his heart conviction!
