The doctrine of the Trinity is not a true Christian doctrine as far as I can see from the word of God.
As far as I have studied the subject, it was created from 150 - 600 AD at various church councils, negotiations and confessions of faith that were adopted.

In many ways, this doctrine completely contradicts what the first Christians believed and taught!

The apostle Paul writes the following:
1 Cor. 8. 6 then there is for us only one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we for him, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through him.

We also read this several places in God's word, including here:
John 17. 3 and this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Jesus is at the right hand of the Father, and the Holy Spirit is their common spirit who is like a representative on earth.
When Jesus himself says that through the Holy Spirit he and the Father will come to dwell in us, as believers.
John 14. 23 Jesus answered, He who loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our abode with him.

It is so that from a biblical perspective, emphasis is placed on certain things that are not mentioned in the word of God.
When it is mentioned, it is also mentioned in a different way than what unfortunately many professing Christians teach and believe.

 

I in no way believe that I have the full and complete truth.
We all see in pieces and divided, and only have a limited view of the word of God.
The doctrine of the Trinity was not a Christian doctrine before it was developed at various church councils from about. year. 3 – 600. Where the discussions were about who should be the 3rd person in the Godhead.
Where Mary stood strong for many, but it was the Holy Spirit who was placed there.
We know from scripture that the word trinity, or the doctrine of the trinity, is a man-made theological word that is not found in the word of God at all.
The words are simply created by and through people.

The word of God teaches as far as I can understand and see it, that those who do not believe will cease to exist. Not eternal torment, even though being lost is the worst thing that can happen to a person. And being saved and accepted by God, the greatest, best and most glorious thing that can happen to a person. The Bible is clear here that there are two ways out of life. Either eternal life, or perdition.
You will find several places in the word of God mentioned.
Among others here.

2 Thess. 2. 10 But all who allow themselves to be deceived by injustice will be destroyed because they did not love to receive the truth so that they could be saved.

People without Jesus and God will be destroyed.
That is what the Word of God teaches as far as I can understand and see it.

So what about the doctrine of the Trinity?

Is it true that there are three equal persons in a common Godhead?
What does the scripture say about this?
As I understand the scripture, it is difficult to see it that way.
Then from the scripture, there is much that speaks of the Holy Spirit being the spirit that acts on behalf of God and Jesus.
Then to mention the Holy Spirit as a separate God person, next to God and Jesus.
That is not how the Word of God presents it as far as I can see and understand it.
The Word of God speaks of the Holy Spirit acting on behalf of God, and not on his own.
And we should not pray or worship the Holy Spirit, as we should with God the Father.

The virgin birth indicates that it was God himself through the Holy Spirit who caused Jesus to be born!

Matt. 1. 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: After his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
19 But Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man, and not wanting to expose her to public disgrace, decided to divorce her quietly.
20 But as he thought about this, behold, an angel of the LORD appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. *JHVH

Here it says that Mary became fertile – pregnant - “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. *YHVH

Heb. 10. 5 ‘Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body for redemption.
6 For in burnt offerings for sins you had no pleasure.’

7 Then he said, ‘Behold, I come (in the volume of the scroll it is written of me) to do your will, O God.’ PSALM 40:7-9
8 First he said this, ‘Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings for sins you did not desire.’ For you had no pleasure in them, even though they were set out in the law.
9 Then he said, ‘Behold, I come to do your will, O God.’ He abolishes the first and establishes the second.
10 And through that desire we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. forever.

A body made God the Father. In what way? Mary became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. But here it says that it was God the Father himself who made this body.

I also remember an incident 15 years ago.
Then someone wrote about this in detail during the debate in Vår Land.
If the Holy Spirit had been a person, and not the spirit of God.
Then the virgin birth would have been an assault, yes he even meant rape.
Mary became pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
God by his spirit planted a form of Divine seed in Mary.
There it was God himself who took up residence in Mary.
Jesus - God's own son - took up residence.
The Word became flesh.
Took up residence in a human being.
Therefore Jesus was 100% God. Since he is God's "only begotten" son, no one else is. We are sons and daughters of God by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
But you saved sinners who have received part in childhood through faith.
Jesus was of course also 100% human when he was born into this world as a little baby boy. And had a naturally normal development as a human.
Absolutely incredible this.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw his glory — that glory.

In the Gospel of Luke, the angel Gabriel told Mary that "the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you"?

"Overshadow" is the same Greek word as when the cloud of the shekhinah glory "overshadowed" the tabernacle, where the Ark of the Covenant was kept (Ex. 40:35 in the Septuagint).

It is a parallel statement by Gabriel, so "the Holy Spirit" and "the power of the Most High" are two ways of speaking; and in the same way "shall come upon you" and "shall overshadow you" are two ways of speaking about the same event.

The word for "power" (dynamis) is also used of miracles and the power of God to perform miracles.

Acts 7:54 When they heard this, they were cut to the heart and gnashed their teeth at him.
55 After this, he was filled with the Holy Spirit and looked up into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
56 He said, "Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!"
57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, covering their ears. And they all ran at him with one accord!
58 They threw him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59 As they were stoning him, Stephen called out, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."
60 Then he fell down on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, “Do not hold this sin against them!” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

If we are to believe the doctrine of the Trinity, this account becomes impossible to relate to.
Stephen saw Jesus, who was great or was at the right hand of the Father.
He saw the glory of God, or the shekhinah of God.

And it says that he who delivered this speech, Stephen.

Here one has at least several Gods if one is to base the doctrine of the Trinity on it.
Where one encounters the Divine every time, it is it is a separate God.
A separate God person.
We read the following here:

1.) Stephen was filled with the Holy Spirit, there is 1 person.

2.) God's glory

3.) Jesus who stood at the right hand of God.

4.) And God the Father.

In other words, here there are not only three Gods, but four Gods.
Should one base the doctrine of the Trinity which believes that God's glory is the Holy Spirit.
+++ The Holy Spirit was in Stephen, Jesus and the Father.
Or do we insert things into the texts as needed?

For me, the word Trinity is not something you find anywhere in the Bible.
But yes, that God works today on earth.
That is what Jesus promised would happen after the outpouring of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost.

Some examples to
Matt. 11. 20 For you will speak in the spirit of your Father when you speak.

Here we see one of many, many examples. That now The holy speaks through us. Then we find that it says that it is either the spirit of God, the Father, Christ, etc.
How n interpret and understand this?
Another example, here I use the 1930 translation
1 Pet. 1. 10 Of this salvation the prophets searched and searched, who prophesied of the grace that should come to you,
11 searching what or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them was indicating when he testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glory that would follow;
12 for it was revealed to them that they did not serve themselves, but us, in that which has now been announced through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven - these things that angels desire to look into.

Not going into depth here. But we see that in the OT it is mentioned that it was the spirit of Christ that was in them. Which made them write and speak as they did.
It is this exchange that we find the spirit of God, the spirit of Christ and the Holy Spirit going one after another.
It indicates as strongly as it is written.
That the Spirit in the scripture goes back more to the one in question than to make it appear that we meet an "extra" God person, right?

John 1.18 is translated in 1978, 2011 and 2024 {Bible Society} completely wrong. The reason is text variation. where a few finds in Alexandria {Egypt} have a spelling error "only begotten God" where all other early finds have "only begotten son". then variation in the basic text {error} is abused to reformulate the entire verse. this should be the case for 99 percent of early finds.
"No one has ever seen God; the only begotten son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has explained him."

Jesus is the unique son of God, the only begotten Son.

Jesus is not mentioned in the scripture as the only true God, there is only God the Father.

But Jesus as his son, is "the only begotten son."

Jesus is unique and one of a kind in every way.

Yet, he is our substitute, our substitute, our Alpha and Omega.

The beginning and the end, when all things are fulfilled, he gives all things back to the Father.

1 Cor. 15. 24 Then comes the end, when he hands over the Kingdom to his God and Father, after he has put down all rule and all authority and power.

25 For he must reign until he has put all enemies under his feet.

26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

27 ‘He has put all things under his feet.’ Ps 8:6 But when he says, ‘All things are put under his feet,’ it is clear that he who put all things under him is excepted.

28 For when all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

The doctrine of the Trinity is also mathematically problematic if the Holy Spirit is a separate person.
How can one person then live in millions of believers at the same time?
Therefore, it is purely intellectually incorrect to claim that there is a 3rd person God as the Father and the Son.
The Scripture says again and again that the Holy Spirit is the spirit of God, the spirit of Jesus Christ, the comforter, helper, guide given to all of us believers.
We do not find any place in the scripture that we should worship or pray to the Holy Spirit.
And no place do we find in the scripture that the Holy Spirit acts and is as a person.
But operates in different ways where you sometimes find physical manifestations.

Then among other things in the baptism of Jesus that the Holy Spirit came upon him.
In the original text it does not say as it is translated in the Norwegian Bible.
It says that the Holy Spirit came upon him like a light like a dove.
Then we understand that the Father gave his full and complete recognition to his Son.
And it became like an illumination on Jesus who resembled a dove.
This must have been an enormous sight, but we cannot or should not in any way draw the conclusion that the Holy Spirit is a person.
On the contrary, the Holy Spirit is the spirit of God who works on God's behalf.
The doctrine of the Trinity involves concepts, words and expressions for which we find no biblical evidence.

Matt. 3. 16 When Jesus was baptized, he immediately came up from the water. And, look! — then the heavens were opened before him and he felt the Spirit of God descending on him in the form of a dove.
17 And, look! — then they heard a voice from heaven, which said: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I have given my authority!”

It could also be translated like this.
When Jesus was baptized, he immediately came up from the water. And, behold! — then the heavens were opened before him, and he felt the Spirit of God descending upon him in the form of a dove, and coming down upon him.
And, behold! — then they heard a voice from heaven saying, “This is my beloved Son, whom I love. I do not see any form of human form of sin.

This is in complete agreement with Rom. 8. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin and condemned sin in the flesh,

Jesus came as a man, but completely without sin and any form of human weakness and inclination.

As I see it, this with the doctrine of the Trinity is a way for us humans to have God in our pattern and mindset.

Where one inserts words and concepts that the scripture does not.

Therefore, this doctrine of three equal Gods in one common God where all three are equal etc.

Completely outside of what the word of God says and teaches.

When the scripture says that it is the Father who is the only true God , and he has only one Only Begotten Son. There today God operates on earth by his spirit which is a part of him. Not an extra person to be prayed to, worshipped or honored.

The doctrine of the Trinity is as most people believe and teach, as far as I can see.
Not in accordance with scripture.
In many ways it is that one himself wants to be God and get God into our pattern and mindset. I cannot see scripture teaching in accordance with this as there is only God the Father who is the only true God, and we have only one mediator, savior and Lord. It is his son Jesus Christ, to whom the Father has today given all power and authority.
But after the 1000 year reign the Father will again have all this, and then God creates and makes all things new.

Final comment:

The word trinity is not mentioned in the Bible, so how do we understand this?
This was the question I asked.

God the Father is the only True God who has no beginning.
Jesus is his Only Begotten Son who has gone forth from him from the beginning of time.
If we read, for example, Word. 8, we must understand it so that Jesus was the first thing that the Father created or came forth from him.
The Holy Spirit is not a separate person as we define a person.
But it is a "common" spirit that is mentioned in the scriptures as, among other things, the spirit of God, the Spirit of Jesus Christ, the comforter, the advocate, etc.
All prayer, worship and praise are ultimately directed towards the only true living God, the Father.

There are also many examples of the Bible translation being wrong, and directly misleading in order to make it agree with a Trinity doctrine that is actually not in accordance with the scriptures.
Here is an example where the following is stated in the Norwegian Bible.
Acts 1:11-13. 15. 28 For the Holy Spirit and we have decided not to impose any further burden on you than these necessary things:

The original text does not say so, but what is translated in Arne Jordly's translation which is on my website.
There it says the following:
Acts 15. 28 For by the Holy Spirit we have decided not to impose on you any greater burden than is necessary:

It is then completely different that it is by the Holy Spirit who is the common spirit of God and Jesus Christ who guides us as believers and the church.
To me it appears that one is translating the word of God completely proven wrong in order for it to match an understanding of reality that is built on a constructed doctrine of the Trinity?
I cannot understand how one inserts the word we and the Holy Spirit when it clearly does not say so. It was the spirit of God that they were led to make that decision.
If one then puts together all of God's word on this subject, one gets the truth.
Since the sum of God's word is truth.

Study this subject yourself, and make your own conclusions as I have done.
Then I cannot see that the so-called Trinity doctrine is in accordance with scripture!
My conclusion is in any case that it is God the Father who is the true origin and who is the only True God. Where the Son Jesus Christ is his only begotten son. The Son and the Father have a common Spirit that operates today, the Holy Spirit. Which we should neither worship nor pray to. Only God the Father in the name of Jesus!
And his Beloved Son Jesus Christ, as it says everyone who calls on the name of the Lord which is Jesus, shall be saved!
