Acts 2. 1. And when the day of Pentecost came, they were all gathered together in the same place. 2 And all at once there came a sound from heaven as of a very raging weather, and filled the whole house where they sat. 3 And there appeared unto them tongues as of fire, which parted, and sat upon every one of them. 4 Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them speech. 5 Now there dwelt in Jerusalem Jews, godly men of all peoples under heaven. 6 And when this sound came, the multitude stumbled, and were confounded, because they heard them speak to every man for his own purpose; 7 And they were astonished, and wondered, and said, But are not all these that speak Galileans? 8 How then do we all hear our own goal in which we were born, 9 we parties and fellows and elamites, and we who live in Mesopotamia and Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the landscapes of Libya at the Cyrus, and we visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and followers of the Jews' faith, Cretans and Arabs: do we hear them speak of God's great deeds in our tongues? 12 And they were all astonished, and were a fool, and said one to another, What is this? 13 But others mockingly said, They are full of sweet wine! 14 Then Peter stood up with the eleven, and lifted up his voice, and spake unto them, Ye men of Judah, and all you that dwell in Jerusalem. Do this to you, and lend ear to my words! 15 For these are not drunken, as ye think; it is only the third hour of the day; 16 But this is what is said by the prophet Joel: 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, that I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall speak prophetic words, and your children. men shall see visions, and your elders shall have dreams; 18 Yea, even over my servants, and over my bondwomen, in those days will I pour out of my Spirit, and they shall speak prophetic words. 33 Now that he is exalted by the right hand of God, and has received the Holy Spirit, which was promised by his Father, he poured out this which ye both see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, but he himself saith, The Lord said unto my lord, Sit thou at my right hand, 35 until I put thy enemies to shame at thy feet. 36 Then shall all the house of Israel know that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified. 37 And when they heard this, they stung their hearts, and said unto Peter and the other apostles, What shall we do, brethren? 38 Peter said unto them, Repent, and every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise belongs to you and to your children and to all those who are far off, as many as the Lord our God calls. 40 And in several other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this delusional kindred! 41 Those who now received his word were baptized, and on that day about three thousand souls were added. 47 praising God and having the favor of all the people. And the Lord daily delivered to the church those who were saved.

I have shortened this chapter down a bit to bring out the most important things about baptism in the Holy Spirit and living in the Spirit.

Not all believers are baptized in the Holy Spirit, but all believers have the Holy Spirit as an inherent Spirit.

The script is clear here:

Room. 8. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwell in you; but if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him.

If we do not have the Spirit of God - the Holy Spirit - the Spirit of Christ, we do not belong to God. But if we have the Holy Spirit, we belong to God and Christ.

Let me briefly show the difference between having the Spirit and being baptized in the Spirit.

Joh.e. 4. 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I will give him shall never thirst, but the water that I will give him shall be in him a fountain of water that floweth unto everlasting life.

Joh.e. 7. 37 But on the last great day of the feast Jesus stood and cried, If any man thirst, come unto me and drink. 38 Whosoever believeth on me, of his life, shall, as the scripture hath said, run rivers of living water. 39 This he said of the Spirit that they should have believed in him; for the Spirit had not yet come, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Here Jesus first speaks of being saved, then there is a wellspring in one's interior that emerges!
But after the baptism of the Holy Spirit, streams are flowing!

The disciples were given an incredibly large mission, but they would not do anything until they had been baptized into the Holy Spirit. It was brought afterwards, then they were to carry out Jesus' command!

It is with others a "step-by-step" race for the disciples, as it is for us.

The first thing they experienced was to be saved and few the Holy Spirit.

Joh.e. 20. 21 And he said unto them again, Peace be unto you. Just as the Father has sent me, so will I send you. 22 And when he had said these things, he breathed on them, and said unto them, Receive the Holy Ghost. 23 If you forgive anyone their sins, they are forgiven; if you hold them to someone, then they are restrained.

Notice Jesus' words that he says "He breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit!"

The basic text freely translates only the one word spirit which means the same as when God created heaven and earth mentioned in
Genesis 1. 1. In the beginning God created heaven and earth.
And Genesis 2 7 And the Lord God formed man of the earth's mouth, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

The Bible is written largely in two languages. GT in Hebrew and NT in Greek.
But these are the same words used, that God the Spirit, and then it became a lasting and complete change. God Himself let something of Himself into man.
Both that we are human, but above all when we accept Jesus as our personal Savior and Lord, as the disciples did!

Baptism in the Holy Spirit - an experience after salvation.

We read about the disciples, they had been born again. But they nevertheless experienced something much more on Pentecost day. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, something they had not experienced before Pentecost.
Yes, they had the Holy Spirit, but they needed something much more. As they experienced and received on Pentecost - a powerful and glorious baptism in the Holy Spirit or as the scriptures say.

"Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them speech."

It is so important, just and good, to experience a baptism in the Holy Spirit. But it doesn't stop there, it's a beginning, of something even more.
Therefore, the scripture says again and again, be filled with the Spirit again, it never stops!

Acts 4. 8 Then Peter said unto them, filled with the Holy Ghost, In the rulers of the people, and the elders of Israel.

Efes. 5. 18 And do not drink of wine, for in it there is restlessness, but be filled with the Spirit,

Don't go this far as I have got so many good points here. It is limited what one can digest, and let go inside.

But there is, in short, a "number" here that one must follow.

1.) Born again, by the Spirit of God and the Word of God, then one receives the Spirit as pledge in the heart forever and ever.

2.) Baptism in the Holy Spirit, where the tongues follow as a sign, one must follow the pattern found in the New Testament.

3.) A continually awakened fullness of the Spirit, which one needs daily. Yes, actually several times in one day.

4.) Walk in the Spirit, which in many ways is the fullness of Christ. Something you have to live in every day, this is "fresh!"

5.) One day we will become Jesus' body when we see him. Everything in our bodies points to this.

Final Comment:

Here I have only tried to give readers an insight into the biblical pattern. Where one is saved and receives the Holy Spirit. Further forward, both a baptism in the Spirit, and a further fullness and walking in the Spirit.
