We meet this account in Exodus through several chapters. And this is perhaps the greatest miracle seen that God did with the children of Israel as a whole. Like a miracle where the whole people got to take part in God's enormous miracle!

The reason for this - was that God sent his angel of death throughout Egypt. Where all firstborn sons of men and the message, died if the blood of the Lamb had not protected and saved them from Death and the Angel of Death!
The scriptures say that they were to slaughter a lamb without blemish, and take the blood from it. And smear it on the door beam and top door frame. Then the Angel of Death would pass it by.

It was here that the Passover lamb and the actual sacrifice of the Lamb were instituted, if there had been shadow images and precursors to this before.

But after this, the children of Israel were allowed by Pharaoh to leave Egypt as a united people. When the Angel of Death had stunned all Egypt, and God had protected all the Jews through the blood of all the lambs that had been sacrificed. The blood which they had taken from it and smeared it on the doors where the Jews celebrated the first Passover.

1 Cor. 10. 1 Brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant that our fathers were under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea.

It was a united people, who were guided by God and Moses.
And the scripture also says the following:

1 Cor. 10. 2 All were baptized to Moses by the cloud and the sea.
3 All ate of the same spiritual food.
4 And all drank of the same spiritual drink, for they drank of the spiritual rock that followed them. And the Rock was Christ

But what was wonderful, and very special. God did not lead them on the easiest path, but on the most difficult. As God often does with his children. This is what the scripture says:

Exodus 14. 1. And the Lord spoke to Moses and said: 2 Tell the children of Israel to turn around and camp before Pi-Hakirot, between Migdol and the sea; opposite Ba'al-Zephon, there you shall camp by the sea. 3 Pharaoh will then say about the children of Israel: They go astray in the land, the desert has closed them in. 4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, so that he pursues them, and I will reveal my glory on Pharaoh and on all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord. And so they did.

Here God did something that happens very often to us believers, God leads us into trials and difficulties. Because God will both test us and show us who he is.

After the children of Israel had been allowed to leave Egypt, Pharaoh changed his mind. He wanted his slaves back.
This was something he did not want, that the children of Israel should be allowed to leave Egypt.

Exodus 14. 5 When it was now reported to the king of Egypt that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his servants changed their minds against the people, and they said: How could we do this and let Israel go away from our service? 6 Then he had his chariot buckled and took his army with him. 7 He took six hundred chosen chariots and all the other chariots in Egypt, and men of war were on them all. 8 For the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, so he persecuted the children of Israel; but the children of Israel went out with uplifted hands. 9 Then the Egyptians pursued them and overtook them again when they were encamped by the sea, all Pharaoh's chariots and horsemen and all his army, at Pi-Hakirot, before Ba'al-Zephon. 10 And Pharaoh came closer and closer, and when the children of Israel looked around, they saw the Egyptians coming after them; then great terror came upon the children of Israel, and they cried to the Lord.

Now the children of Israel were really bad. The army of the time, for approx. 3400 years ago. Was this in military terms, the strong army of the time.
The children of Israel were slaves from Egypt, who had been miraculously delivered from this Army and Pharaoh. Because they had smeared the Lamb's blood on the doorposts and top doorpost. That was what constituted this enormous difference between these two peoples.

But now the same army they had escaped from was coming after them again. What now?
Walking with God is completely against all that is human give. Where our odds are far behind, what we want. And the enemy's odds of winning are always greater than ours.
This is God's way - always!

1 Cor. 1. 26 When I look at your calling, brothers, not many were wise according to the flesh. And not many were powerful or of high nobility.
27 But God has chosen the foolish in the world to put the wise to shame. And God has chosen the weak in the world to put the strong to shame.
28 The lowly in the world, those without influence, he chose, those who were nothing.
29 It was so that no flesh should boast over him.

Here it was also with the children of Israel, they were now in bad shape.
The enemy was so close that there was no way out of it all.
The situation was completely deadlocked.
The Egyptian was behind them and in front of them was the Red Sea where no one could cross and survive. At least a whole people with women and children.
The situation was deadlocked.

This is also how it is for us, which is why this is written here. For us to learn, for Satan or God has not changed since this happened. Much of the same thing happens in our lives, where the enemy will in one way or another confuse our lives and services. And God will lead us either through, or deliver us, hallelujah!

Room. 15. 4 What has been previously written shall be for learning for us, so that in endurance, and with comfort from the Scriptures, we shall have hope.

Ecclesiastes 3. 15 What is, was already before, and what is to be, has also been before; God seeks again the past.

What was God's answer to the children of Israel and Moses?
Engage in a complete defensive war, what the youngest men had to defend and fight against the strongest army of the time? What were they supposed to do? Here, good advice was expensive.
We read what God spoke in the story from the Bible.

Exodus 14. 13 Then Moses said to the people: Fear not, now stand here and see the Lord's salvation, which he will send you today! Because as you see the Egyptians today, you will never see them again in eternity. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you will be quiet.

Note God's word and promises, HE WILL FIGHT!!!!
YOU SHOULD BE QUIET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the basic text it says like this, somewhat freely translated.
Jehovah/Yahweh will fight in your place, and you will behave calmly or in silence!

This was now no longer their dispute - but the Lord Jehovah God Amen!

We have many examples from the scriptures, when men and women of God came up in difficulties.
Things arose that meant they had no natural ways out of it all!

Very often when we are in a fight, we all do it wrong time and time again. It is that we will try to solve the situation ourselves in one way or another. Even when God has said, do nothing. I am thinking of an account from Jesus himself, when he had said to the disciples. We go over to the other side.

Mark 4. 35 When it was evening that same day, he came and said to them: "Let us go over to the other side."
36 Then they left the crowd and got into a boat. Other boats were also with them.
37 Then it blew up with high storm waves that hit the boat so hard that it was about to fill.
38 But Jesus was lying in the stern and sleeping on a pillow. The disciples weighed him and said: "Teacher, are you not afraid that we will perish?"
39 Then he stood up, threatened the wind and said to the sea: "Quiet. Be calm." Then the wind died down until it was completely silent.
40 And he said to them: “Why were you so afraid? Have you no faith?”
41 Then they became very anxious and said to each other: "Who can this be that both the wind and the sea obey!"

After a hectic day with lots of people and lots of teaching, Jesus and the disciples wanted to be by themselves. They crossed over to the other side of the Sea of ​​Galilee. It is quite possible to get across in a short time as the lake is a lake which today is 13 km wide at its widest and 21 km long.
But notice what the Son of God said, he who is the way, the TRUTH and the life.
“Let's go over to the other side.”
Jesus himself was thus in charge, he said that they should go over to the other side.
It is obvious that here it was Satan and the demons who somehow caused this storm.
Jesus slept, it says, and then the enemy had an opportunity to enter which he took advantage of.
The scriptures say about God, the same applies to Jesus.

Psalm 33. 9 For he spoke, and it came to pass; he bid, and it was there.

When God has said something, should we trust this or not?
Here the disciples became uneasy, because the following happened:
"Then it blew up with high storm waves that hit the boat so hard that it was about to fill up."
Jesus' words still applied, that they should go over to the other side.
They did not need to worry, Jesus himself was asleep.

The disciples troubled the Master, but he was in control.
Jesus says the following about himself:

Matthew. 28. 18 And Jesus came forward, spoke to them and said: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me; (1930 translation.)

Back to the children of Israel's way through the Red Sea. God spoke to Moses and the children of Israel that he should fight for them, and they should be quiet.
It is also the case today, that what God says to us. We have to and will arrange that follow us, then victory is within reach.
No one is like the Lord in war, he is invincible!

Exodus 15. 3. The Lord is a warrior, the Lord is his name.

Now it says that they had reached a critical point, the writing says:

Exodus 14. 19 And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; the pillar of cloud that was before them moved and stood behind them, 20 so that it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; on one side it was cloudy and dark, and on the other it lit up the night; and one camp did not enter upon the other all night.

This was like the Lord's "Time-out" where neither the Egyptians nor the children of Israel could do anything great. Then God got his opportunity, which we will look at.
We are reading:

Exodus 14. 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea away with a strong east wind, which blew all night, and he turned the sea into dry land, and the waters parted. 22 And the children of Israel walked through the midst of the sea on dry ground, and the water stood as a wall on their right and on their left.

Here God performed a miracle for the children of Israel. An easterly wind – a strong one – blew all night. So that there was a "tunnel" free of water for the entire Jewish people. They could pass from one side – the rock – to the other side.
They truly saw the Lord's salvation.

But what happened to the Egyptians? Did they experience God's miracle?
Yes, but to judgment, destruction and disaster.

Psalm 106. 7 Our fathers in Egypt did not heed your miracles, they did not remember your many graces, but were stubborn by the sea, by the Red Sea. 8 But he saved them for his name's sake, to declare his kingdom, 9 and he threatened the Red Sea, and it became dry, and he let them pass through the depths as in a desert, 10 and he saved them from his hand which hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy, 11 and the waters hid their adversaries, not one of them was left. 12 Then they believed his words, they sang his praise.

What is shown time after time, we as believers are invincible when we walk with God. The losses and defeats we get. Comes from either our unbelief, disobedience or simply not being able or willing to listen to our God and Father.

There are an incredible number of examples of this in scripture. One is with King David, who we read about in 1 Chronicles. 14. 13 But the Philistines came again and spread out into the valley. 14 And David asked God again, and God said to him: You shall not go up after them; turn away from them and take a detour, so that you come upon them in the midst of the baka trees, 15 and when you hear the sound of steps in the tops of the baka trees, then you shall go forth into battle; for God has gone out before you to smite the army of the Philistines. 16 David did as God commanded him, and they defeated the army of the Philistines and pursued them from Gibeon to Gezer. 17 And David's name went forth into all the lands, and the Lord caused the fear of him to come upon all the peoples.

The first time King David had gone after the Philistines.
1 Crown. 14. 10 Then David asked God: Shall I go out against the Philistines, and wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the Lord answered: Get out! Then I will give them into your hand.

So did King David and Israel. But the second time they should not rush in, they should use cunning and prudence. Walking with the Lord is not like driving on a highway, that everything goes straight ahead. Above all, it is important to listen. So do. The scriptures are very clear on this, that hearing and doing is the thing. Don't just do, but hear and do.

1 Sam. 15. 22 Then Samuel said: Surely the Lord has as much pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obedience to the Lord's words? No, obedience is better than sacrifice, obedience better than the fat of rams; 23 for obstinacy is no better than the sin of sorcery, and defiance is like idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you, so you will not be king.

This is what became King Saul's bane, he always acted.
In the world this goes, but not in God's church. It is our downfall with too much energy, too much human muscle power.
This is not where the victory lies for us believers. But in the Lord and he alone.
Scripture says:

Zechariah 4. 6 Then he spoke and said to me: This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might and not by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord God of hosts.

The children of Israel won victory over the Egyptians, why? The Lord fought for the children of Israel. But they also had the patience and ability to listen for the Lord, without it. No real victory. They walked with the Lord, then there was victory. The scripture says the following:

Exodus 15. 16 Dismay and terror fall upon them, by the power of your arm they are speechless as stone, while your people go forward, Lord, while the people you have won go forward. 17 You bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your heritage, the place you have made for yourself, Lord, the sanctuary, Lord, which your hands have founded. 18 The Lord will be king forever. 19 For when Pharaoh's horses with his chariots and men went out into the sea, the Lord caused the waters of the sea to return over them, while the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea.

We read poh wonderful, that the Lord really fought for Moses and the children of Israel. They were defeated by the Lord and his angels.

Exodus 14. 22 And the children of Israel walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, and the water stood like a wall on their right and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians followed and followed them to the middle of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots and horsemen. 24 But at the time of the morning watch, the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud on the camp of the Egyptians, and he confused the camp of the Egyptians, 25 and he struck the wheels of their chariots, so that it became difficult for them to come forward. Then the Egyptians said: Let us flee from Israel; for the Lord fights for them against the Egyptians. 26 Then the Lord said to Moses: Stretch out your hand over the sea, and the water will return over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen. 27 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and when it fell toward morning, the sea returned to its usual bed, and the Egyptians immediately fled towards it; and the Lord overthrew the Egyptians into the midst of the sea. 28 The water returned and hid the chariots and horsemen of Pharaoh's whole army, which had come after them into the sea; not a single one of them remained. 29 But the children of Israel walked on dry land in the middle of the sea, and the water stood like a wall on their right and on their left. 30 Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the seashore. 31 And when Israel saw the great work the Lord had done with the Egyptians, then the people feared the Lord; and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses.

By the Lord - we as believers are invincible.
Because in Christ Jesus, we always have victory, no matter the odds.

Final comment:

What is Moses' song? It was the one that was sung when they were freed from captivity, and the bad time in Egypt. When they arrived at the Red Sea, something strange happened. "Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea away with a strong east wind that blew all night. He turned the sea into dry land, and the waters parted. And the children of Israel passed through the midst of the sea on dry ground. The water stood like a wall on their right and on their left.” (2 M 14,21-22).

When the Egyptians tried to pass through the sea, "--- the waters returned to their bed." (2M14,27). And all the Egyptians drowned. "Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song of praise to the Lord: I will sing praises to the Lord, for he is highly exalted. Horse and rider he plunged into the sea. The Lord is my strength and my praise, he became my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, the God of my father, and I will exalt him.” (2 M,15,1-2).

It is the same God we serve today that Moses and the children of Israel did.
It is entirely possible to win victory and that with God all things are possible.
The God who was in Moses' time is the same today.
The Lord, YHVH, revealed himself to his chosen servant, Moses, and told him who he was and commissioned Moses to lead the people out of slavery in Egypt. From generation to generation, the children of Israel were to call him Lord and have no other gods besides him (Exodus 20:3) nor worship and serve them (Exodus 20:5).

The enemy can camp around us, sometimes on all sides.
But God's word and God's promise is that the Lord will deliver us from all tribulations and all evil people!

Psalm 34. 7 This wretch cried, and the Lord heard, and he saved him from all his troubles.
8 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
20 Many are the calamities of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him from them all. 21 He takes care of all his bones, not one of them is broken.
22 Misfortune kills the wicked, and those who hate the righteous are judged guilty.
23 The Lord redeems the souls of his servants, and none of those who take refuge in him are judged guilty.

As God was with Moses and the children of Israel, He is with us today.
There is no tribulation or difficulty that is too great for him.
All situations in our lives, God had a way out of for Moses and Israel.
He has the same for all believers at all times under all conditions.

Heb. 11. 23 By faith Moses hid
24 By faith, after he had grown up, Moses refused to say that he was the son of Pharaoh's daughter.
25 He preferred to have to suffer with God's people rather than have a momentary joy in the pleasure of sin.
26 He thought that drawing near to Christ was greater riches than the treasures of Egypt, and he looked forward to the reward.
27 By faith he went out of Egypt without fearing the wrath of the king. And he endured because he envisioned him who is invisible.
28 By faith he performed the passage and the sprinkling of blood so that he who destroyed the firstborn of others should not touch theirs.
29 By faith they crossed the Red Sea on dry land, but when the Egyptians tried to do the same, a flood came upon them.
